NET ZERO

Net Zero 2050

Net Zero: what does it really mean?

In short, Net Zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted and the amount removed from the atmosphere. This balance can be achieved through a combination of emission reduction and emission removal.

This commitment is aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and requires a profound transformation in business models, production chains, and public policies.

Our commitment: Net Zero 2050

The energy transition is an integral part of our business model, and we are committed to a clean, resilient, and fair future, working with solutions that promote a low-carbon economy. We enable renewable energy to reach as many destinations as possible. Although the transmission sector has a relatively low carbon footprint, this does not exempt us from the responsibility of advancing the decarbonization of our operations and positively influencing our entire value chain.

Goals

  • 2050 → Net Zero – Reduce 90% of emissions from Scopes 1, 2, and 3
  • 2040 → Reduce 60% of emissions from Scopes 1, 2, and 3 (partial reduction)
  • Offset residual emissions through I-RECs and high-quality carbon credits

*Technical losses are inherent to energy transmission and proportional to the volume transported. As a transmission company, we do not control this volume, which limits our direct action in reducing losses.

Our commitment: Net Zero 2050

  • SF6 loss management
  • Energy efficiency
  • Innovation and circularity
  • Renewable fuels
  • Biodiversity as a climate asset
Adaptation
  • Periodic climate diagnostics
  • Climate adaptation plan
  • Technology and contingency
Advocacy
  • Engagement with government and regulators to promote sustainable technologies and strengthen the climate resilience of the grid
  • SF6 phase-out
  • Regulatory review to enable investments in resilience
Value Chain
  • Expansion of comprehensive Scope 3 mapping
  • Engagement actions to reduce emissions across the value chain

Conexión Jaguar

The Conexión Jaguar Program is a strategic part of our Net Zero journey, serving as a complementary mechanism for climate mitigation and adaptation. It supports conservation and restoration projects that generate high-integrity carbon credits to offset residual emissions. In addition to contributing to decarbonization, it delivers socio-environmental benefits, strengthens climate resilience, and expands the company’s impact beyond the value chain.

Climate Journey Between 2022 and 2024, we reduced our GHG emissions by approximately 20%, as a result of actions such as strict control of SF6 leaks and the implementation of our own solar power plants for self-consumption. We also invested in solutions to reduce environmental impact during project construction, such as the use of drones in the building and operation of assets. In this report, we detail our commitment to the climate agenda, progress made, lessons learned, and next steps on the path to Net Zero. Learn more
