São Paulo, December 6, 2023 – Committed to generating sustainable value through projects that contribute to the safety of the electrical system, ISA CTEEP, a leader in Brazil’s energy transmission sector, invested R$ 784.4 million in the renewal of its installed infrastructure from January to September. This represents a 46% increase compared to the R$ 537.6 million recorded in the previous year. It is the highest level of modernization investment in ISA CTEEP’s history.
To enhance the robustness of the system, assets are modernized based on their level of criticality and aligned with asset management objectives, such as maintaining updated engineering standards, ensuring reliable and integrated information, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Over the nine-month period, the company replaced 1,407 outdated pieces of equipment, compared to 546 in the same period last year — a 258% increase. The expectation is to reach 1,500 replacements by the end of 2023. Among the assets are transformers, circuit breakers, protection systems, and transmission lines.
Key Projects From January to September, 38 projects were energized and 66 were under construction — most focused on contract renewals and the management of Contract 059, involving assets located in the State of São Paulo.
Highlights include the capacity expansion of the 138 kV Atibaia II – Bragança Paulista transmission line, supporting the expansion plan of Guarulhos International Airport; the renewal of the 138 kV Barra Bonita – São Carlos – Rio Claro transmission line to improve service to the ceramics industry in Rio Claro and surrounding areas; the modernization of the São Sebastião Substation to enhance reliability in energy supply to the northern coast of São Paulo; and the replacement of conductors on the 138 kV Ibitinga – Bariri transmission line to support regional generation.
Importance of Transmission Network Renewal
These investments are part of the company’s Asset Renewal Plan, which includes reinforcements (installation, replacement, and refurbishment of equipment in existing assets or facility upgrades to increase capacity, reliability, lifespan, or user connection) and improvements (execution of works for installation, replacement, or refurbishment of equipment in existing assets or facility upgrades to maintain adequate service delivery).
According to the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL), investments in reinforcements and improvements are part of the framework for providing adequate services, meeting conditions of regularity, continuity, efficiency, safety, and affordability of tariffs, while also incorporating modern techniques, equipment, and facilities, as well as conservation and expansion.
“Today, the company has R$ 5 billion in investments in reinforcement and improvement projects already authorized by ANEEL for the period from 2023 to 2027. Asset renewal is essential for proper transmission system management and for ensuring excellence in service delivery to society, enabling reduced operating and maintenance costs and extending the lifespan of the installed transmission infrastructure,” says Dayron Urrego, Executive Director of Projects at ISA CTEEP.
Investments in reinforcement and improvement projects are carried out in collaboration with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and capital markets.
